Start Times

We are suggesting start times for the courses to smooth out the traffic on the road and at rest stops. If you are not a strong rider and need to start prior to 8:00 am in order to finish before 5:30 pm, you may do so. Rest stops may not be open if you depart too early. If you ride really fast or slow, gauge your start time accordingly. If you are a strong rider and start too early, you may arrive in time to help the rest stop volunteers set up! We will sweep the course at the end of the day, so nobody gets left behind!

Sharing the Road

  • This is not a race and the course is open to motorists. Please be courteous to all motorists and pedestrians, and be friendly to our neighbors along the route. Read our Road Rules.
  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Ride single-file as much as possible. If you ride double, be vigilant for overtaking vehicles and cyclists, and single up quickly.
  • Help each other!
  • Ride safely and have fun!

What to Bring

  • A properly fitting helmet is required at all times during the ride.
  • Sunglasses or safety glasses. Some of the roads have been chip sealed by DOT this year. The rocks/gravel can be dangerous when they fly off the rear tire of riders in front of you.
  • It is your responsibility to bring a bicycle that is in safe working condition.
  • Tire change kit, including tubes with tire pump or CO2 cartridges
  • Two water bottles or hydration pack
  • Carry ID, emergency phone number, medical insurance card, blood type, etc.
  • Lip balm
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Towel for post ride

On the Road

  • SAG vehicles are on course for assistance. We have first aid kits and water/snacks in the SAG vehicles. We have first aid kit and mechanical bike help at the Rest Stops. If you need help, contact us using cell phone or flag down a SAG wagon, or go to a Rest Stop. We hope you have a safe, fun ride and that these people will be very bored for the entire day. If you need help, our SAG teams will transport you to the closest rest stop.
  • Call the number on your map for SAG support. Cell Phone coverage is uneven over much of the course. You may have to move to better coverage to complete the call. Of course, cyclists take care of each other so someone else can ride to better coverage and alert our SAG network. We have excellent HAM radio support between our Communications Center and the Rest Stops and SAG vehicles. If you need help, no matter if it is minor medical or mechanical, contact us and we will get you the help you need. If you have a medical emergency call 911.
  • The courses are marked with signs with particular emphasis on the turns. Be sure you know which course you are on because the direction signs will have colored dots that indicate the course for which the sign applies. Stay on the course and be aware of where you are on your course. Good info about where you are will make it a lot easier to find you if you need assistance!
  • There will also be turn by turn course directions on color coded sheets in your registration packet. The color code on the sheet corresponds to the course and the sheets have mileages, both incremental and cumulative for your particular route. There is also very important emergency information, phone numbers, etc. on those sheets.

At the Rest Stops

  • A minimum of fresh fruit, Peanut Butter & Jelly, cookies, olives, pickles, chips, Gatorade, water, bike parking, and restrooms.
  • Medical and tech support means "first aid" for bodies and bikes. Any medical problem even slightly serious, you need to call 911. SAG will bring you to the nearest rest stop and the rest stop people will arrange further transport, if appropriate.
  • If you are at a rest stop and need a ride back to the start/finish, let the rest stop volunteers know. They will arrange a ride as soon as they can, depending of course on the urgency of the situation and the availability of transport.

Check-out / Finish Line Rest Area (9:45 AM to 5:30 PM):

  • Check-out: When you finish you will need to return to the check-out/sign-out so we know you have safely finished. The course will be swept after the last rider is finished. We will notify the emergency contact of any rider who has not signed out after the course is swept.
  • All door prizes will be handed out at the finish of the ride.
  • Post-Ride Meal: Taco Salad Bar Meal with ground beef, ground chicken, tortilla shells (hard & soft), corn chips, black beans, corn, tomatoes, jalapenos, sour cream, shredded cheese, lettuce, hot sauce, and taco sauce) plus our now famous Tomato sandwiches, ice cream sandwiches, and more will be waiting for you after check-out. There is an area to rest, relax, and recover after your ride!

Showers
Downtown YMCA has kindly offered to let Glassner Challenge riders use their showers after the ride. Remember that we will be guests at the YMCA. Please be respectful of their facilities and their regular members, and thank them all for the use of their facilities. Your "Shower Pass" is located on the back of your ride rules.
