Ride of Love
Starts in Tuscaloosa, AL ends in Birmingham, AL
The Ride of Love
is a challenging 150 mile group bike ride at a 15-16 mph pace but we are
choosing our challenge, the kids at Camp Smile-A-Mile do not get to pick
their challenge—cancer. The scenic route starts in Tuscaloosa and winds
through the beautiful countryside of Alabama and finishes at the
campsite. THIS IS A GROUP RIDE— we help support
and encourage one another—that is what Camp SAM is all about to these
kids and their families. There is also a sag wagon in the motorcade for
those riders who are not able to maintain the 15-16 mph pace. You must
make a commitment to properly prepare for this ride.
Upon finishing, participating cyclists are
able to meet the children and families for whom they are riding and
raising money. You must have a ride to the ROL start and you must have a
ride at the Camp SAM campsite to pick you up once the ride is over.

Ride of Silence
Montgomery, AL
On Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 7 PM, the Ride of Silence will begin in North America and roll across the globe. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.
The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no sponsors and no registration fees. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured.

Tannehill Ironworks Century
30 mi. SW of Birmingham, AL
Alabama Backroads Century Series Ride
Routes of 44, 66, 78 & 100 miles.
Last year's routes were the best yet, so they are back for 2013 with
smooth pavement, nice scenery and enough hills to keep it interesting.
The toughest climbs come before the first rest stop; after that it's all
gravy - with a few lumps (see elevation profile chart on IWC info page
of BUMP website). Sag vehicles will patrol the routes and rest stops
will offer drinks, snacks and real restrooms. Back at the park you can
shower up, enjoy a cold one with red beans & rice and swap lies with
your buddies. Punishment gluttons should bring their mountain bikes, too
- over 7 miles of new trails have been added to the park since last year.
